Today, NYC Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito joined the train of elected officials riding to Masbia Kitchen ahead of the Jewish holiday of Passover to volunteer in their widely reported ‘Charoset Drive.’ The speaker was joined by Council member David Greenfield, MET Council head David Frankel and Alex Rapaport, Executive Director of Masbia Soup Kitchen Network.
First, the speaker was joined by Chef Ruben Diaz, preparing a batch of charoset all by herself as the delegation looked on.
Ms. Mark-Viverito then put together a charoset drive package that included 5lb of walnuts, 10lb of red apples and grape juice. The group posed for a joint picture soon to be posted on Twitter as part of a 24-hr tweet-a-thon.
Masbia Soup Kitchen Network announced last week a toll-free number for kosher-for-Passover food packages in response to increased demand from New Yorkers in need. Including seder staples, such as eggs, chicken, apples, walnuts, almonds, potatoes and more, the special packages will be available in Boro Park, Flatbush/Midwood, Rego Park and Manhattan on Thursday, April 10.
