Thousands of New Yorkers lined up at sites in each borough, hoping to score one of the coveted at-home COVID-19 test kits the city distributed ahead of the holidays. Five pop-up locations opened Thursday, and another five are scheduled to open Friday morning.

Those logistics and shipping delays have had a significant impact on food aid in New York. The Masbia Soup Kitchen Network, which operates three locations in Brooklyn and Queens, has found creative solutions, like ordering prepackaged produce to avoid having to manually sort produce in bulk, said Alexander Rapaport, the organization's executive director. But he added that the transportation issue had been more difficult to navigate.

(Brooklyn/Queens NY) -- Effective immediately, Masbia Soup Kitchen Network will add 600 appointments to each of the 3 locations to help families with the increased cost of food. This means that there will be a total of 1,800 more families who will have food every week. This reverses the course of Masbia trying to reign in it’s breadline footprint for the past six months.
