Jewish grandchildren of Holocaust survivors met today at Yapchik restaurant in Lakewood to send off food boxes, with messages of welcome and love from the Jewish community, to Afghan refugees.
The food boxes are being sent to Joint Base MDL, where tens of thousands of refugees are currently housed and waiting to be released by the Army to settle in the United States.

The food boxes were sponsored by Yapchik and Dependable Food and are being delivered by volunteers.
The volunteers in Lakewood were led by Lakewood Deputy Mayor Menashe Miller, who is a grandson of European immigrants, and who facilitated this project in communication with the army base, and Rockland County Legislator Aron Weider who is a grandson of two Holocaust survivors.
