Share Shabbat by Sharing Shlissel Challah - Sponsor Challah Ingredient Kits at Masbia Soup Kitchen Network

Our best response to hate and darkness is kindness and mitzvos. So let's show solidarity and Jewish pride this Shabbos. The first Shabbos after Passover is known for the shlissel challah, which is an old custom (with many explanations) to shape a challah into the form of a key, or to braid it on top of the challah, or even to stick a real key inside a challah. Two weeks ago, we actually did not distribute any chicken during the raw food distributions.

This year, Masbia will be in high demand during the High Holidays. Here's why:

For example, when one has a gap in demand for their work or doesn't feel well and can't work. This September, the Hebrew calendar has the potential to push all of them into such a situation, causing Masbia to be in high demand.

[Updated] A Chicken In Every Pot: $2.25 or $1.83 per lb. What would you pay?

A butcher-wrapped pack of chicken legs in foam trays or chicken legs shoved into sealed polybags - which would you give to a needy family? It will be produced in the same plant. It will be the same amount (4 lbs.) in each pack. Same Kosher certification. Same brand. Everything inside is the same, except the presentation. The only difference is that a pack of the butcher-wrapped costs just under $9 and the polybagged costs a bit more than $7. In other words, butcher-packed for $2.25 per pound (wholesale) versus polybagged for $1.83 per pound (wholesale).
