Food prices in the New York area have jumped more than 9% in the last year, according to a new Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) report, and experts caution that they are unlikely to ease up in the foreseeable future.

The great 16th century Rabbi Yehuda Loew, also known as the Maharal of Prague, in his volume on the Passover Haggadah, explains that while the miracles in the book of Exodus are very epic, the even greater miracle is the everyday occurrence of God feeding the planet.

On the foothills of the Catskills in Goshen lies a 227-acre farm, where most of the workers speak Yiddish, and organic wheat and spelt for shmura matzah is the main crop. The Yiddish Farm also grows ripe, red tomatoes that will be provided to soup kitchens, such as Masbia, which distributes food to families in need in Boro Park, Flatbush, and Queens.

"We don't know what we're going to get the next day," Diaz said. "So we have to be very creative to create a meal." Masbia operates as a soup kitchen and food pantry offering kosher meals and groceries for the community. During COVID, when lines were hundreds deep and social distancing a must, they switched to digital appointments so crowds didn't form.

Masbia, a nonprofit soup kitchen network that provides nutritious meals for New Yorkers in need, has partnered with DoorDash to deliver groceries in Queens and Brooklyn to families facing food insecurity via Project DASH, the company’s initiative to enable food banks, food pantries, and social impact organizations to leverage DoorDash’s last-mile logistics.

A two-alarm fire on the last night of Passover has left a Brooklyn family with eight children without a home. The blaze broke on Friday night at the Borough Park home of Simcha and Sarah Salz. Two firefighters and a resident suffered minor injuries during the fire, according to AMNY. Approximately 125 firefighters responded to the emergency.
